Bungalow Spotlight: Sleepy Hollow

Inviting, soothing, and relaxing, The Sleepy Hollow Bungalow experience is casual, just like a day at the beach—with sand, sun, and surf. Designed by Tania Cassill Interior Design, the Bungalow’s color palette and theme is inspired by the art of one of Sleepy Hollow Group’s founding members, Wolfgang Bloch. Wolfgang’s art is a sublime, romantic interpretation of the Laguna coastline.

The Sleepy Hollow Group is a congregation of local designers and artists who share a love of the ocean, surf, outdoor lifestyle, and Laguna Beach. The group formed organically: each knowing one another through various connections. Amazingly enough, the group had a clear vision of what the Bungalow design needed to be. The Sleepy Hollow group is comprised of the following:
Tania Cassill of Tania Cassill Interior Design - A Laguna Beach resident for most of the past 40 years, Tania Cassill offers 20-plus years of experience in fashion and interior design, creating beautiful, functional spaces that are both comfortable and match her clients’ lifestyles.

Wolfgang Bloch - Wolfgang Bloch has lived in Laguna Beach for more than 20 years. His work has been exhibited in the pages of major international publications and on the walls of galleries and museums across the globe, including the Laguna Art Museum.

Bret Englander of the Cerno Group - Cerno is comprised of three childhood best friends, all born and raised in Laguna Beach. After pursuing different academic and professional paths, they reunited in their hometown and started a design and manufacturing company of modern LED light fixtures —100% made in the Laguna Beach.

Kerry Cassill of Paisley Label by Kerry Cassill at Lala - The local KC boutique is owned and operated by Kerry Cassill, a longtime Laguna business owner and resident. Her original designs are made from hand-blocked organic fabric and can be found all over the USA.

Joe Pfeifer of Vintage Wood Floor Company - Joe Pfeifer’s company has provided reclaimed and vintage wood beams, flooring, and various other wood elements to many Laguna residents.

“I love Laguna Beach and couldn’t imagine raising our family anywhere else. We are a tight-knit community—much like a village. We band together to help each other in times of need, we reach out when we need help, we celebrate together, and we take pride in our beautiful beach town. Our unique landscape of rocky coves, beautiful beaches, and rolling hills sets us apart from all of our neighboring communities.” —Wolfgang Bloch

Bungalow Spotlight: Fox Head Inc.

The design of the Fox Bungalow is very masculine and dark. It highlights the Fox brand with large, black and white photography on the walls, which include both motocross and surfing images. It’s the ultimate man-cave, echoing the high-intensity, physically demanding sport of motocross. Fox Bungalow guests will enjoy the classic leather couches, animal-skin rugs, and epic ocean views. It’s the ultimate beach retreat to recharge, both mentally and physically.

Fox is the most popular motocross apparel brand in the world today. Founded in 1974, Fox built their business by developing clothing for the high- intensity, physically demanding sport of motocross. It wasn’t until 2006 that the brand expanded its focus, penetrating sporting venues outside of motocross, such as surfing and snowboarding. Fox Racing has become an international leader in the youth lifestyle clothing market with its famous Fox Head logo seen worldwide today.

Bungalow Spotlight: gorjana & griffin

The design theme for the gorjana & griffin Bungalow is “modern- nautical”—sleek and comfortable, incorporating a natural infusion of West Coast-casual and East Coast- polish. A mix of playful nautical elements and contemporary furnishings, keeping to a neutral color palette, with small pops of bright color.

gorjana & griffin is a socially conscious lifestyle brand, offering fashionable, high quality accessories for both women and men. The company began in 2004 from the design and business ambition of husband and wife, Gorjana and Jason Griffin Reidel, whose bi-coastal residencies have fused a West Coast lifestyle inspiration with the sophistication and polish of East Coast trends into each design and collection.

The Pacific Edge Hotel has been a recurring character in the company’s story throughout the past couple of years. From company lunches, to photo shoots, to our annual holiday party, gorjana & griffin continually finds itself at the property.

“Jason and I have experienced some of the world’s greatest cities—having lived in Europe, Canada, and in multiple locations across the United States. Laguna Beach is one of the most unique and charming towns we have ever seen. Art and culture thrive within the city’s breathtaking natural scenery. It has so much to offer for so many different people; no matter what your flavor, this town has something for you. The energy of Laguna Beach is truly special, and we could not imagine a better place to call home.” —Gorjana Reidel

Bungalow Spotlight: Billabong

The Billabong Bungalow was designed as a “surfer’s paradise” built in the heart of Laguna Beach. Here you'll discover surfing images covering the walls, reclaimed wood accents, ocean blue décor, and soothing colors reflective of the sea. Enjoy sparkling water views from the comfortable, laid-back lounge, designed to make visitors feel at home at the beach.

Billabong is an international board sports company founded in Australia in 1973. Known for action sports apparel, Billabong’s family of brands include: Dakine, Element, RVCA, Sector 9, Nixon, Von Zipper, Xcel & Kustom. Billabong and it subsidiaries sponsor hundreds of professional athletes and celebrities across surf, snow, skate, wake, music, fashion and art.

The Bungalow project was a natural concept for Billabong. Billabong lives at the beach, promoting the lifestyle and heritage that has made it the iconic surfing brand it is today. There is no other property in Laguna with immediate access to the beach quite like Pacific Edge Hotel with its casual & surf vibe; it was an obvious fit.

What makes Laguna such a local favorite stems from its roots. The historical homes and cottages give Laguna its charm, but it is the foundation as an artist’s colony that continues to drive the community and its people. The setting itself provides the perfect backdrop; rocks and bluffs spilling into the ocean leads visitors into private cove beaches perfect for exploration and discovery.

Throw in the endless options of restaurants and nightlife, what isn’t there to love about Laguna Beach?

Full Moon Drum Circle in Laguna Beach

Did you know that Laguna Beach has a drum circle every full moon? Down at Aliso State Beach, crowds up to 250 people gather to drum, dance and celebrate the coming of the full moon. Orange County families, locals and tourists alike flock to the southside of the beach once a month to revel in the spiritual and mental benefits of drumming.

The Full Moon Drum Circle was started in 2003 by La Vida Laguna's Billy Fried, who runs the website catering to the wonderful recreational delights of Laguna's best tourist attractions. While the practice is rooted in tribal traditions, people of many diverse backgrounds come together to enjoy the sights and sounds of the circle.

On June 23, nearly 200 people gathered on Aliso Beach for the full moon circle, and in this case, it was the "super moon" of the night before that gave even more cause to celebrate. Some brought their drums, other their flutes. Parents danced with their children and teens took photos of themselves in front of the bonfire, and others just looked on.

Laguna Beach offers many things relating to the Southern California experience, but nowhere else can you get this kind of local gathering with a genuine purpose: to unite people in the name of rhythm.

Saving Ocean Life, One Sea Lion at a Time

You may have read about the influx of sea lions coming in to California's beaches in recent months. One organization based out of Laguna Beach has been taking action to rehabilitate these precious sea mammals and nursing them back to health.

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of marine mammals stranded along the Orange County coastline and to increase public awareness of the marine environment through education and research. One of the many donation opportunities include "Adopt a Sea Lion" where you can contribute to your favorite pinniped pal directly from their website.

In recent weeks, the PMMC has released over a dozen sea lions back into the wild after giving them much needed TLC. The organization has posted videos on their Youtube of the sea lion release with many onlookers applauding in support- a very heartwarming visual to say the least!

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center is open free to the public 10am-4pm daily. It is located at 20612 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, CA 92651
