August brings more exciting events to the HIP District’s many art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, bars, hotels and shops
Spanning seven blocks of Pacific Coast Highway between Anita Street and Blue Bird Canyon, Laguna Beach’s HIP District has it all, from bars and restaurants to accommodation and a variety of retail shops.
Many of our art Galleries will be participating in the First Thursday’s Art Walk on August 5th, from 6 to 9PM. The Studio Arts Gallery at the Old Pottery Place will be having three special events on the night. The first is the reception and premiere for artist Suzi Chauvel, a multi-media collection called Chasing the Horizon. The second event is for artists Susan Thacker, the reception and premiere for her collection of paintings, Over and Above. On the patio while you browse the gallery, the sounds of professional violinist Paul McIntire will be heard and Gabriella Ferrin’s multi-ethnic designs will be on display.
The Cove Gallery near Calliope Street will be presenting two guest artists this August. Browse local artist Lucy Arnold’s hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces in sterling silver, gold, bronze, copper and natural gemstones. Janet Mackaig takes images from memory and creates works of art with a “visual haiku attitude.” Both of these artists’ unique work shouldn’t be missed.
The Laguna Coffee Company’s artisanally created coffee is the tastiest coffee around—and they’ve got proof. One of the shop’s regulars entered their Estate Costa Rican coffee into the Sierra Club’s recent coffee challenge. The eight participants brought their favorite roast from their local shops on the trip to Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, and Laguna Coffee’s was the top pick. So come on by and pick up a pound of the Estate Costa Rican coffee for only $10 during the month of August and help them celebrate!
Feeling stressed or perhaps sore from all your summer activities? Stop by the Laguna Sports Massage & Skin Spa in August and treat yourself to two relaxing massages for only $169, or a facial and massage for the same price. On your way out, pick a gift out for yourself or a friend at the Jewelry Den, where there’s 20% off the entire store during the month of August. 3
Between 2 and 4PM each Saturday during the month, return to the Old Pottery Place for a free summer concert series. On August 7th and 14th, listen to the artistic expressions of professional violinist Paul McIntire. The third Saturday brings the incredible lyrics and voice of Sasha Evans, followed on the 28th with the brilliant and popular Jason Feddy on the acoustic guitar.
A trip to Laguna Beach this weekend will not be complete without a tour through the HIP District, where both locals and tourists find the best shopping, dining, art and accommodations in town.
